This morning I had a case at St. Anthony Central Ortho Colorado with Erica. We met at the hospital at 6:15 this morning. The case was a short one, only 2.5 hours. It was on a young girl only 21 years old. It was a lumbar case coming from the anterior angle which means that a general surgeon comes in to expose the spinal column by retracting back vessels and organs, the neurosurgeon does the decompression, placing of the cage in the disc space, and fusion with plates, and then the general surgeon comes back to close up and remove the retractors. These type of surgeries have a higher success rate among young people, whereas older people generally get lumbar surgery from the posterior angle, coming through the back. This means that the screws and plates can be seen and felt. Coming from the anterior, the plates are hidden beneath organs.
After my surgery I spent most of the day updating my blog, working on other things for work on my computer, tying needles for my two surgeries all day tomorrow, and going to Target to get some groceries and other things.
Now I am watching Design Star so I can get caught up with my mom! I miss watching it with her :/ Good night!
Quite a lot of updates all at once. It seems like you are having a good time despite seeming to get the run around a bit, but that's just the price you pay when working with/around hospitals.
