7/18/11

I woke up at 5 AM today to meet Erica off of highway 25 to go to Longmont United Hospital in Northern Colorado. It was about an hour drive from my hotel to the hospital and almost a two hour drive for Erica, the tech I worked with today. The scheduled surgery was a L4-5 Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF) which basically means that the patient is on their stomach and the surgeon replaces the disc with a cage contraption and uses rods and screws to fuse the two vertebrae. The surgery started at 7 AM and was scheduled to go for 4 hours. Once the surgeon made the incision, he realized that the disc at the L3 level was also degenerated and decided to add on L3 making it an L3-5 TLIF. Fortunately we had already planned to monitor a level above and below the surgery site so we were covered as far as our EMGs and SSEPs. The surgery closed up around 2:30 and I headed back to the hotel. Sylvia came on the bus after work and I picked her up from the bus stop. Now we are heading to Target to get my camera checked and Dick's Sporting Goods because they forgot to take off the tag on her shoes she just bought. Then we are going running on a running path near the hotel! I can't wait because my family is coming into town tomorrow night!!!
Sylvia and I went running down a path by my hotel and crossed over 7 bridges over the creek!! It was so beautiful and the mountains looked foggy in the distance. I wish I had brought a camera to take some pictures!!! I listened to my Harry Potter audiobook on my ipod, and after our run we sat in the hot tub for a few minutes. Now off the bed :) I have work at 10 AM in Louisville tomorrow. BYE!
