7/14/11

Kristin asked me to meet her at the Louisville office at 10 AM....this is a picture of the beautiful view of the mountains I get to see everyday! So gorgeous!
Sooo, I went to the office.
BUT, when I got there and called Kristin she told me she got caught up dropping off equipment for other techs in Denver and that she would be late and for me to go ahead and start setting up the equipment and the dummy. A few minutes later she called me and asked me to come to the Denver office instead since she was already out that way. So I packed up the dummy and my suitcase of IOM equipment and headed to Denver.
Since I was going to have to carry the dummy through the streets of Denver I decided to go ahead and pay a 1/3 extra cash to get a parking spot closer to the actual office building. When I pulled into the parking lot the only spaces that weren't taken were held by orange cones! The parking representative came over to me and I asked him if the lot was full. He said yes, but that he would let me have one of the coned off spaces he was required to save. I was SOOO THANKFUL! I couldn't stop thanking him! The parking was so close to the office I was able to avoid many curious stares at the dummy!

Most of the buildings downtown are a mix of old and new as most cities are. I really like our building because it has the old exposed brick in the interior with a modern spin of pipes and cool lighting.
Today Kristin and I primarily practiced setting up the dummy and equipment for various types of surgeries. Here is an example of how to set up for an ACDF (anterior cervical discectomy & fusion).

I brought my lunch (I made a turkey & salami sandwich on a bollilo roll and brought pringles) today to save money so I just walked around 16th street mall until I found an open table outside in front of a subway to eat my lunch. I love my new camel back water bottle because it has been helping me drink water much more often.
When I got off work around 5 PM I walked over to the Courthouse downtown where Sylvia had a mock trial thing as her final exam for one of her summer classes. She and another girl Myra were on the side of the Plaintiff and two other classmates were on the side of the Defendant. The story basically went that a woman started out as a paralegal, and then a law clerk at a big firm Parker & Gould. She went to law school and got her degree and came on as an associate at the firm. She had an affair with a married partner in the firm and ended the affair right around the time that she was being considered for partnership. She didn't make partnership and was fired from the firm. She was trying to sue the firm for $10.8 million in losses for gender discrimination. It was pretty interesting, but it lasted over 4 hours!!! So by the time we finished it was about 10 PM and I was so hungry and tired!
We walked over to The Yardhouse where they had happy hour. I got a half price margherita pizza. Two of Sylvia's friends from the law firm she works for had acted as the Plaintiff and an expert witness in the trial so they came with us too. They are just here for the summer but at law schools in Florida and Philadelphia.
After dinner we met Sylvia's friend Emily for a little bit down the street and then came back to Westminster for the night at my hotel!
